SAFETY AND SECURITY:
Prevents food
borne illness. |
|
|
|
|
1. Ensures food
safety upon receipt for
wholesomeness and coordinates inspection
activity with appropriate contracting and
receiving personnel as necessary.
2. Ensures foods are evaluated periodically in
storage to keep them wholesome and usable.
3. Medically evaluates both on-base food
facilities and off-base potential local supplies
of food for food preparation practices,
personnel hygiene, facility and vehicle
sanitation, and to ensure
foods are
protected from damage,
contamination
and infestation.
4. Collects and submits samples to appropriate
laboratory of any stored product pests
identified during evaluations.
5. Evaluates aircraft food operations to ensure
proper food safety techniques are followed.
6. Advises leadership on recommendations
for food safety and security measures.
7. In the absence of Bioenvironmental
Engineering Personnel…Assess field water
supplies. Performs biological contamination
test and pH test as appropriate.

EPIDEMIOLOGY &
COMMUNICABLE
DISEASE
CONTROL:
1. Performs surveillance (Monitors and
investigates incidents of illness or
injury encountered predeployment, at
the site of operation, and post deployment,
utilizing available disease and non-battle
injury surveillance systems).
2. Performs appropriate investigations
(Conducts personal interviews and performs
epidemiological investigation for
personnel suspected of exposure to a
communicable disease).
3. Reports findings and recommends control
measures (Provides written and oral
briefings on patient illnesses and injury
trends to commanders, health care
providers, and deployed personnel).
4. Coordinates prevention activities
(Coordinates with pharmacy, immunization
personnel, and supply about availability of
necessary preventive medication during
disease outbreaks).
5. Documents and reports DNBI
incidence, lessons learned, and disease
and injury control actions taken.

CONDUCTS MEDICAL ENTOMOLOGY
PROGRAM
(surveillance, risk assessment
and
recommendations):
1. Conducts vector-borne disease surveillance
(Collects surveillance information on
vector populations or conducts necessary
surveillance to identify vectors at deployed
site).
2. Identifies vector and determines public
health significance of damage or infestation.
3. Correctly packages and ships necessary
samples to appropriate entomology
laboratory.
4. Works closely with Base Civil Engineering
(BCE) personnel and local authorities to
produce an effective pest management
program during deployments (Provides
information on the identity, size, location
and threat of the target vector and pest
population).
5. Performs health risk assessments and advises
commanders and support agencies on specific
health effects (Assessments are based on
AFPAM 90-902, Operational Risk
Management Guidelines and Tools).
6. Identifies and reports need for aerial spray
if surveillance shows a severe or potentially
severe vector or pest problem that is not
controllable by ground equipment.
